This Sunday’s Readings

Fifth Sunday of Easter
May 22, 2011

Acts 7.55-60 Stephen has been brought before the Sanhedrin on a charge of blasphemy. He stands falsely accused of saying things against the Temple and Mosaic Law. He has answered the high priest by showing that throughout history Israelites have apposed God and failed to keep the Law.

Psalm 31: 1-5, 15-16

1 Peter 2.2-10 The author writes to readers who are newly baptised. Just as God chose to be the cornerstone of the new temple, that is the Church, so Christians are living stones of the spiritual house of God.

John 14.1-14 Jesus prepares his disciples for his departure. He has given them a new commandment: to love one another as he has loved them. Mutual love will be a sign to everyone that they are his followers.
