Transition Update: Notice of Upcoming Parish Meetings

“Will you come and follow me?” — Jesus

Three parish meetings are planned in the New Year to help the parish of St. John’s discern the next part of our mission and ministry in preparation for the search for a new rector.  Each session will be no more than two hours and will take place on Sundays following the morning services.  The timeline takes into consideration already scheduled events known to date and to give the Canonical Committee sufficient time to prepare the parish profile before proceeding with the recruitment process in the spring of 2011. Childcare and lunch will be provided for each meeting. Please register for these meetings by using the signup sheet located at the back of the church.

Your contributions and feedback are integral to the next phase of our journey together, so please hold these dates!

Parish Meeting 1
Who are we: getting to know one another
Sunday, February 6, 2011

This session will allow parishioners to get to know one another a little better by exploring such questions as: what does the parish of St. John’s mean to you?  What have you learned and discovered about the parish community?  What are your hopes and dreams for our parish?

Parish Meeting 2
Blast from the past: our journey so far
Sunday, February 13, 2011

This session is aimed at helping us understand our history from a number of perspectives.  We will have an opportunity to explore what life was like when we first joined the parish and to discover our strengths and challenges as a congregation.

Parish Meeting 3
Lift off to the future: the next generation
Sunday, March 6, 2011

This session is aimed at discovering the congregation’s special identity and dreams.  We will be considering such questions as: what is God calling us to do?  What is the mission of the Cathedral in this next phase of our history?  What leadership gifts will be needed in the next incumbent to help the parish carry out its mission?

Further Communication

Please watch for weekly bulletin notices and parish mailers which will report on the progress of these meetings and inform you of any new developments.  The work of these meetings will also be left up on the wall in the John West Hall for a few weeks following the sessions for further contributions and reflection.

If you have any questions at any time please speak to a member of the St. John’s Transition team:  Terry Barber, Marlene Janzen, Patricia Stagg, Peter Spencer, The Reverend Canon Rick Condo, Maureen Dolyniuk.

Thank you!
